Cover # 11---Baby I Love You VS. Lanterns & Laughing Ladies

Cover number eleven is Baby I Love You performing "Lanterns and Laughing Ladies," off of Songs That You Might Not Like. Listen to it here.

Rumor has it Baby I Love You lives and records above American Apparel on Capitol Hill. But these may only be rumors.

This recording also features C. Munford of Tullycraft on distant sounding lead guitar. C. Munford is officially a furry guitar strapped genius.

The electronic drums and "late night party chill out/Yo La Tengo-ey vocals" have blown our minds and made this cover a favorite here at BOAT HQ.

Oh yes, Baby I Love You even created their own cover art featuring a little Munford.

Cover #10---Base the Money on the Children VS. Kiku

This cover comes to us from Ms. Kiku Hughes. She has created a homemade masterpiece with her rendition of "Base the Money on the Children," off of "Let's Drag Our Feet!

Kiku adds a fuzzy/acoustic/warbly electronic touch and a Bjork-y female vocal to a song that was hopelessly forgotten on Side B of BOAT's second LP. Check it out here.

Also, Kiku is responsible for the fabulous poster design for the upcoming BOAT/"AWESOME"/FISHBOY/EUX AUTRES show at the Comet Tavern. Look for it on a street corner near you.

Last but not least, she receives an gold star for her group "Reptile Boy" shout out as the recording begins.

Cover #9--Greetings from a Clogged Castle!

Cover #9 comes to us from Robin Pecknold of Seattle's Fleet Foxes.

Listen here to a gentle/folk take on "Clogged Castle," off of Songs That You Might Not Like.

Special thanks go to Robin for taking time out of his schedule (rumor has it Fleet Foxes album is all wrapped up), and recording this song.

Is Robin's voice made of magic? Do his vocal chords spew forth glitter? We think so. Hopefully, BOAT and Fleet Foxes will get the opportunity to play together again soon.

We have many more covers to post and are still accepting submissions. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time and energy.

Cover #8 Creeping Weeds Make a HiFi Donkey!

Philadelphia's favorite sons and daughters Creeping Weeds, have outdone themselves/and BOAT with this cover of "(I'm a) Donkey for Your Love," off of Let's Drag Our Feet!

This recording has stunned us. Did Phil Spector help record it? Did Phil Ek record it? Did Philip Seymour Hoffman record it?

It is rad.

BOAT still dreams of touring the east coast with Creeping Weeds. Will this dream be realized?

Cover #7--Sea Navy VS. Last Cans of Paint

This is the Sea Navy's Jay Cox playing a gentle twangy version of "Last Cans of Paint" from the Songs That You Might Not Like LP.

Jay gets extra points for his liberal use of tremolo. This cover is perfect to listen to while drinking hot cider in a Seattle windstorm, maybe even a Tacoma windstorm.

Yes....the month of covers deadline is Thursday. We have received 6 covers in a matter of 24 hours here at BOAT HQ. Last minute covers indeed!

Cover #6 ----Da Bears!

Ryan Solomon is the lead singer of Da Bears. Here he is pictured rather appropriately, like he has just left the Strawberry Fields video shoot.

He has contributed cover number six, "(I'm a) Donkey For Your Love," off of Let's Drag Our Feet! Download it here...directly from Da Bears.

Da Bears are a San Diego band that BOAT met/played/drank free Red Stripes with/ate pizza in an empty room with in Boise, ID. Two members of the band also played tambourine with BOAT on "Last Cans of Paint." Are they sloppy pop? I think they would indeed qualify/be charter members.

Ryan turns this falsetto sloppy pop single into a psychedelic Casio beepy homage with plenty of slop pop scatting and noodletastic riffage/upper neck fretwork/squall.

BOAT needs to get down to San Diego and play with Da Bears soon.
